Welcome! We are Casey + Savannah and we are the two ladies behind The Off Grid Homesteader. We are two best friends who live + work together. Our DIY blogging journey started way back in 2011 with our first blog, Hey Wanderer. Since then we started our other website, Stock Tank Pool Authority, and are now happy to bring you The Off Grid Homesteader. This blog is full of information, tips, and stories about living off grid and running a homestead. We are not experts by any means, but we are passionate about this lifestyle. We hope to encourage all who are interested to research and possibly pursue your off grid and/or homesteading dreams and goals.
We started our homestead journey back in 2013. We co-owned chickens with our neighbors and we built and planted some garden beds. We experimented with canning and eating from the garden. We moved in 2015 and took a break from gardening to work on renovating the inside and front and back yards of our new house. In 2019 we flew to California to hike the John Muir Trail. Due to some unforeseen complications, we were only on the trail for 1 week. But we had planned to be in California for 1 month! So instead we took a road trip all over California camping at farms and homesteads, because it was the only accommodation we could afford. This was when our desire to homestead was re-ignited.
Upon the return from that trip, we ordered baby chicks to be delivered in a month and immediately started building garden beds in our backyard. The rest is history.
We now live on 5 acres and are building our off grid homestead from the ground up. We will be sharing what we learn here. We always say we make the mistakes so you don’t have to!
